Miriam and Ethan’s did not.
They met just months before their wedding day, yet standing inside Fairlie Chicago surrounded by 250 of their closest family and friends, it was impossible to imagine their story unfolding any other way.
There was no sense of rushing. No feeling that anything had happened too quickly.
Instead, there was an overwhelming confidence woven throughout the entire day — a quiet certainty that these two people had found exactly who they were meant to find.
Perhaps that’s why the celebration felt so joyful.
Every “Mazel Tov” shouted across the room. Every embrace. Every tear shed beneath the chuppah. Every guest who packed the dance floor.
It all felt less like witnessing the beginning of a marriage and more like celebrating something everyone already knew to be true.
Set within the warm industrial backdrop of Fairlie Chicago, Miriam and Ethan’s wedding blended modern Jewish traditions, intentional hospitality, & garden-inspired floral design into a celebration that felt deeply personal from beginning to end.

A Modern Jewish Wedding at Fairlie Chicago
Located in Chicago’s West Loop neighborhood, Fairlie offers one of the city’s most distinctive event spaces. With soaring ceilings, exposed brick, warm industrial architecture, and abundant natural light, the venue creates a backdrop that feels both elevated and inviting.
For Miriam and Ethan, Fairlie provided the perfect setting for a modern interpretation of a traditional Jewish wedding celebration.
Their ceremony centered around a copper chuppah, a meaningful symbol of the home they were building together. Rather than overwhelming the structure with flowers, we approached the floral design with restraint and intention, allowing the significance of the ceremony itself to remain the focal point.
The result felt architectural yet organic — a design that complemented the space while honoring the traditions that mattered most to them.
Garden-Inspired Floral Design with Soft Movement
The floral palette drew inspiration from the couple’s vision of a romantic, garden-inspired celebration. Soft whites, blush tones, mauves, and layered greenery created a design that felt fresh, refined, and effortlessly welcoming.
White O’Hara roses, ranunculus, sweet peas, stock, huckleberry, and delicate textural blooms worked together to create arrangements with movement and depth. Rather than focusing solely on statement pieces, we designed each floral moment to contribute to the overall atmosphere of the day.
One of my favorite elements was Miriam’s bouquet.
While much of the floral story leaned into soft whites and blushes, her bouquet introduced subtle mauve tones that added dimension and personality. It felt timeless yet distinctive — an extension of the overall design while still giving the bride her own moment.
An Intentional Ceremony Focused on Partnership
One of the most memorable aspects of the day was watching Miriam and Ethan move through their Jewish wedding ceremony.
There was something deeply moving about witnessing two people become one family while surrounded by generations of loved ones who were fully invested in their story.
The floral design around the chuppah was intentionally asymmetrical, featuring organic floral placement and grounded arrangements that framed the ceremony without competing with it. The design allowed guests’ attention to remain where it belonged: on the promises being made beneath the canopy.
As a wedding florist, stewardship often means knowing when design should quietly support a moment rather than demand attention. This ceremony was a beautiful example of that philosophy.
Reception Florals Designed for Connection
As guests transitioned into the reception, the celebration continued with long rectangular tables designed to encourage conversation, connection, and shared experience.
Rather than relying on a single centerpiece style, each table featured an elongated floral runner effect created through layered arrangements, bud vases, candlelight, and thoughtful variation throughout the room. The result felt lush and abundant while still allowing guests to easily engage with one another.
The compote arrangements quickly became a favorite.
Nestled among the runners, these pieces added fullness and dimension while introducing moments of sculptural beauty throughout the reception space. Combined with the glow of white pillar candles, the room felt warm, welcoming, and deeply celebratory.
One of the hallmarks of intentional wedding design is creating spaces that feel beautiful without sacrificing the guest experience. Every floral decision was made with that balance in mind.

What I remember most from Miriam and Ethan’s wedding isn’t a specific arrangement or installation.
